About the Tibetan Children's Villages
(TCV).
 |
The project in which Jodie is involved
is all about helping more than 16,000 exiled Tibetan Children living
in India.
Founded some 47 years ago, TCV is
comprised of schools and homes based in several parts of India,
extending from Ladakh in the North to Bylakuppe in South.
The Villages are governed by a
registered Charity with the support of their spiritual leader the
Dalai Lama (seen on the left with some of the Children) who was forced
to flee Tibet after Chinese occupation in 1950. All of the "Villages"
are affiliated with the Central Board of Education in New Delhi, which
is one of the official national examining bodies in India.
|
| This is a well managed project offering hope to many who otherwise might not
have survived. TCV realises the enormous responsibility that it bears
for the destiny of these Tibetan children and for the goodwill of
donors and friends around the world who have sustained it through the
years.
Today, they are proud to see young
people from the villages serving the community in different capacities
but, at the same time, are saddened that there are a few who have not
fared so well. A lot has been accomplished but much remains to be
done.
Jodie's objectives:
Jodie's objectives are neither
political nor religious. She is going there entirely for the benefit
of the children and on behalf of her project supporters in the UK (of
whom she needs many more to achieve her goals!). In the first instance
she will assess the current needs of the children and report back to
her Board of Advisors and friends with her views on the priorities -
and of how we all can "best assist her to help them" in this
remarkable project.
In this respect it's early days, so to
speak, but with your support there is so much that can be achieved
under the leadership of this pioneering and remarkable young woman who
is dedicating much of her own life to this worthy cause. |

 |
Tibetan Children's Villages is a charitable
organisation that remains almost entirely dependent on the kindness and
generosity of others. However this is not about "charity for
charities sake"! The TCV are well aware that eventually the Tibetan people
must become entirely self-sufficient. Towards that objective they are in
the process of establishing handicraft centres and other more substantial
businesses to generate an internal source of revenue. We support and
admire these objectives, but in the meantime they desperately need our
help.
